These 40′ steel drop bottom gondolas were built for coal service in western Canada but later ended up in all sorts of service. By the 1970s they could be frequently found in northern Ontario hauling not only coal but gravel & aggregates, pulpwood, woodchips and nickel slime (a byproduct of electrolytic refining).
