Starting in the early 1970s, the Canadian Government began supplying new covered hoppers for grain service to prairie farmers through the Canadian Wheat Board. These cars were assigned to service with Canadian Pacific or Canadian National, with CPWX and CNWX reporting marks indicating CP or CN service, respectively.

The model is a stock Intermountain hopper with light weathering to represent a fairly new car with only a few years of service.
